Energy and Environmental Sustainability Leadership
Recognized as a Local, State, and National leader in energy and environmental sustainability, the City has not only saved hundreds of thousands of dollars in energy costs, but works to help residents do the same through the efforts of community driven groups such as the Commission for Energy and Environmental Sustainability. The City’s LEED Gold certified City Hall is a shining example of “practical” sustainable building design. This 52,000 square foot facility added much needed employee and public space, but it also reduced energy costs by over 50% per square foot.
Farmington Hills residents enjoy hundreds of cultural, recreational, and nature programs for all ages, over 600 acres of public parks, and superb facilities including a nature center, ice arena, and a premier municipal golf course and skate park. Additionally, the community has been a strong supporter of local and regional artists. In fact, you can find one of Oakland County Michigan’s best displays of regional artists at City Hall.
As Farmington Hills has aged and as population preferences shift, Farmington Hills is working to evolve and adapt. With over 33 square miles of land nearly fully developed, redevelopment is the primary focus, with the Grand River Corridor being a priority.
