The City of Caro is located in the Thumb Region of Michigan.The city offers something for everyone. Picturesque Caro is one of Michigan’s treasures. The city is the county seat for Tuscola County and is home to a rich agricultural history. The city serves as the location for Michigan Sugar Company, which is the oldest manufacturing sugar company in the state.
Besides the unique agricultural history, the city offers a historic downtown. Our downtown district offers a historic movie theatre, unique shopping opportunities, and multiple cafes. As part of the City Master Plan, the downtown has started to introduce a modern flair into its historic downtown. One of the prime examples is The Harvest Café, which now serves as a major modern focal point of the community.
A number of exciting festivals and attractions await visitors. Caro is home to the Tuscola Pumpkin Festival, one of our most popular events, which proudly displays our community’s history with an annual week-long celebration and parade. Families from all over the Thumb Region come to help celebrate a major Fall festival. Currently, Caro is having some major projects take place. First is the rehabilitation of four buildings in the downtown area through funding from the Michigan Economic Development Corporation. Also, the city is working on a trail head project that connects our downtown to one of our local parks.
Our small community takes deep pride in our history, and in continuing to work with local business owners to help them prosper. Caro has a reputation for being a major agricultural destination, but there have been other major industries joining the area. POET, a large scale ethanol plant, is within the city limits, and SRS, a pharmacy management software company, is located in the heart of downtown. These businesses have provided our residents with great job opportunities and encouraged others to take up residence in our beautiful city.
