University of Michigan Local Government Ask Me Anything Program
Beginning in 2021, the University of Michigan will be hosting a Local Government Leaders Ask Me Anything series. The NextGen Committee will be working with University of Michigan to help identify local government managers and senior officials to participate in interactive, small group Q&A sessions where Ford School of Public Policy students will pose questions relating to a topic. Topics may include local government finance, COVID-19 response, affordable housing, policing, infrastructure, collaboration, and more.
Virtual Networking Events
The NextGen Committee hosted a Virtual Networking Event on Thursday, Sept. 24. This event saw strong attendance with a good mix of current MME members and students interested in the profession. With the success of this event, the NextGen Committee is moving forward with planning additional similar events. Please keep an eye out for advertisements for more events in this series.
Students and Internships
The NextGen Committee has been working to build a contact list for students interested in the profession who may not be currently serving in a community or have access to the listserv. While we have shared event notices and the Compiled Internship List with this group, we recognize that MME members may have information relevant to those looking to enter the profession. If you have specific internship/fellowship postings or any additional information that you feel would be relevant to share with students interested in the profession, please reach out to Committee Chair Justin Breyer at Jbreyer@dextermi.gov. Also, if you have contact information for any students that have expressed interest in our profession, please forward that as well.
