Summer Workshop – Online Registration Ends July 8

The full 2022 MME Summer Workshop agenda is now available here and the deadline to register online is 5 p.m. Friday, July 8. Check out this link to view venue and hotel information, guest speakers, topics for discussion, and networking opportunities with other municipal executives to share best practices.

The event begins on Tuesday, July 19 with a golf outing at 11 a.m. at the Ravines Golf Club in Saugatuck, MI. Those who prefer can also attend the Holland Energy Use and Sustainability Tour, 1:30-4:00 p.m. followed by the MME Board Meeting, 4-6 p.m.

On Wednesday morning, the conference features breakout sessions on creating snow removal solutions and how to incorporate autonomous vehicles into your community’s Complete Streets model. In the Wednesday afternoon sessions, you will be discussing uses for bonds, risk management and social media, and Regional Geographic Information Systems. There is a dinner Wednesday at the New Holland Brewing Company for Early Career Outreach members that requires pre-registration.

On Thursday, the conference will have updates from the MME task force committees, networking opportunities, a general session on the new unified development ordinance in Holland, and breakout sessions on community engagement and managing short-term rentals. Thursday evening you have the option of a networking activity at the Holland Civic Center before the workshop closes on Friday with a legislative update general session and a panel discussing building attainable housing.

Throughout the conference there will be breakfast and lunch provided or vouchers and opportunities to experience all that downtown Holland has to offer during the summer in Michigan.

Frances McMullan has over 25 years of experience in municipal government, serving in multiple capacities at the cities of Ann Arbor and Ypsilanti; including 12 years as city clerk. She is the first African-American female city manager for the City of Ypsilanti. McMullan has served as chaplain for the Michigan Black Caucus of Local Elected Officials (MBC-LEO) and is a board member of Destination Ann Arbor, a not-for-profit convention and visitors organization whose mission is to enhance the economy of Ann Arbor and Ypsilanti areas, and Washtenaw County. She is passionate about rebuilding and stabilizing cities through long-term financial planning, infrastructure, sustainability, and community and staff collaboration. McMullan has a master’s degree in business management, a bachelor’s degree in public law & government/public administration, and she is a proud graduate of the first class of the Michigan Municipal League’s 16/50 Women’s Leadership Program. She loves mentoring and empowering others.
