MME Displays Resilience in a Tumultuous Year

By John Shay

As I write this article on the last day of 2020, I think back on such a momentous year. It seems like forever ago that we all met in person at the Winter Institute in Gaylord, when COVID seemed like an acronym for a secret military weapon. How things have changed!

What hasn’t changed is my appreciation for the hard work and resiliency that you have shown in the past year. As I have said before, it is my utmost privilege to have served as the MME president. The MME will be in great hands when Rebecca Fleury takes over during the Winter Institute and leads our efforts to implement the strategic plan, which the MME Board approved on December 17, 2020.

Strategic Plan Update

As I mentioned in my last article, the Strategic Planning Committee has been hard at work with The Nonprofit Spot to update MME’s Strategic Plan to:

  • Address the Key Strategic Issues into a set of Key Strategic Goals and develop objectives and tactics to support those goals.
  • Present the Key Strategic Goals and Objectives during the virtual Summer Workshop.
  • Conduct a series of video conference calls with close to 40 members representing MME regions across Michigan to get further feedback on the draft Strategic Plan.
  • Begin to address implementation by reviewing the current committee roles and proposing a number of changes in their responsibilities.
  • Conduct an additional series of video conference calls with committee chairs and other stakeholders to further refine committee roles and the draft Strategic Plan.

President-Elect Rebecca Fleury, along with Heather Carmona and Alan Levy from The Nonprofit Spot, will present the strategic plan to the MME membership during the virtual Winter Institute in late January.

We’re very excited about what’s planned for our virtual Winter Institute happening next week. The Professional Development Committee has put together an exciting agenda that you can check out here. It is our hope that this will be our last virtual conference and that we can resume in-person conferences beginning with the Summer Workshop in July. Register here for the Winter Institute if you haven’t already done so.

I hope everyone has a Happy New Year holiday and an even better 2021!
